Lexar has developed a new Secure Digital eXtended Capacity (SDXC) memory card with a storage capacity of no less than 256 GB. Although the standard supports cards of up to 2 TB, for now, such capacities are far from realistic. Nevertheless, only enthusiasts and professional users will be interested in the Lexar Professional 400x SDXC UHS-I, as it bears a $900 (£554) pricetag. With the same budget, a large array of 32 GB SDHC memory cards can be purchased as well.
To create the Lexar 400x SDXC card, the manufacturer uses 128 Gb 20nm NAND flash memory chips, created by Micron. These chips are linked to an UHS-I controller, which has a claimed performance of 60 megabyte/second.
As mentioned, the 256GB Professional 400x SDXC UHS-I card, with product code LSD256CTBNA400, has a recommended price of $900 (£554). Purchase includes the Rescue 4 software bundle and a lifetime warranty.
